Abstract

This study is conducted to analyze Code Mixing in Conversation Between Sellers and Buyers in Market Balongsari Surabaya. By understanding the function of Code – Mixing, it can provide a great opportunity to position the existence of regional languages to survive and passed to generation as a local cultural identity. Issues in this study is” What is the form of code mixing speech the sellers and buyers in Market Balongsari Surabaya and what are the reason of the sellers and buyers use code mixing in transaction”. The researcher uses a qualitative descriptive approach in analysis to get information. The source of data are choose seven conversation between sellers and buyers from 12th, 13th on May 2015 and 17th on June 2015. The data are collected by (1) Writer is direct observation the object and located of the data research, (2) The writer collected data by recording handphone in secret, (3) The writer listened to the recording and repeat again to write data, (4) The writer sorting the word that contain code mixing by type. The procedure Analysis data are (1) Tabbeling the data collection, (2) Grouped the data based on the date, (3) Explaining also each recordered aech conversation. There are two types of code mixing : (1) Inner Code Mixing (Javanese, Indonesian and Madura language), (2) Outer Code Mixing (English and Arabic). Reason of the sellers and buyers used code mixing are to create atmosphere more relax, to describe something, to create intimate atmosphere (familiar) between sellers and buyers, quipped the other buyers, limitation of languages. The dominant code – mixing occurs is of java language to indonesian language or, in this case because either sellers or buyers from same background. Finally, based on the finding the researcher suggest the future research will be useful for the future improvement of studying linguistics, especially about code mixing. The writer hope, this paper can use as a reference for student Wijaya Putra University.
