Abstract

This study identifies the types of presupposition from President Trump's speech which was pronounced the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assemblyand analyzes the meaning of the presupposition in the speech uttered by PresidentTrump. George Yule's presupposition theory was used to analyze the data in thisstudy. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The data speech was takenand Downloaded from text speech data at http://www.whitehouse.gov. After that,Selecting the data of the speech text with block, copy and paste on MicrosoftWord and the last printing out the speech text. The results of this study show thesix types of presuppositions. Based on George Yule's theory found in PresidentTrump's text are Existential Presupposition, Factive Presupposition, Non-factivePresupposition, Lexical Presupposition, Structural Presupposition, and Counterfactual

Presupposition. All the types of presupposition has be found it in thisspeech. The meaning of the presupposition types text is described and interpretedusing contextual explanation process because the data are contextual utterances.The most content in Donald Trump's speech is to provide information so thatrepresentatives attending the session will imitate Trump's presidential system inregulating policy in America, so that the issue of terrorism will not easily threatentheir country. From this situation Donald Trump gave the opportunity to adopt the system of America, for their country too. That is why this speech has ExistentialPresupposition as the dominant Presupposition found.
