Abstract

This study was made with the aim to describe the form, meaning, and function ofsemiotic language in a traditional wedding procession in Flores, Manggarai Regency,
which appears in cultural life. Every meaning behind every form of local custommarriage forms a meaning or function to reveal cultural facts that have been inheritedby ancestors. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subject and objectof the study focused on the problems related to the semiotics of traditional wedding
processions in Manggarai Regency. Data obtained by interview techniques andanalyzed by qualitative descriptive analysis techniques.After analyzing, the writer
finally found that, the customary wedding procession in Flores, Manggarai Regencyhas its own uniqueness element that appears in the entire process with the highest
achievement in a household formation path or family, and then in terms of itstheoretical basis, this study analyzes the historical background of the formation ofunderstanding the nature of the concrete level of language as social semiotics and thecorrelation of language with culture is very important to reflect the reality of theManggarai marriage procession, through the interpretation of linguistic figures. Andthe overall events contained in the marriage procession have semiotic. All of theabove can be seen in each element of the problem issue chosen as the main focus ofthis research. These elements are present in each lingual and non-lingual unitaccording to the context of the situation that occurs in the whole process.
