Abstract

This study is conducted to analyze ethnography of communication President Joko Widodo in Presidential candidate debate 2019. There are two statements of theproblem: (1) What are the ethnography contents in discourse of President JokoWidodo in debate of presidential candidate? (2) What are the meanings ofethnography contents in discourse President Joko Widodo in debate of presidentialcandidate.?. The writer uses Dell Hymes theory of ethnography of communicationto analyze the data. The writer uses descriptive qualitative approach because thequalitative approach helps to discover new thoughts and individual views. Thismethod uses various kinds of unstructured or semi-structured practices for datacollection. The data taken from Creative Commons PT. Bahasa Kinerja Utama bylink : http://debatcapres.bahasakita.co.id/ . Downloaded on Tuesday, April 30th2019. Based on the result analysis of the elements of ethnography ofcommunication in that debate, the ethnography contents are : genre or type of event,topic, purpose, setting, key or emotional tone, participants, message form, messagecontents, act sequence, rules for interaction, norms for interpretation. There aresimilarity contents in every debates that are : genre, topic, key/emotional tone,message form, act sequence, rules for interaction. And there are deference contentin : purpose, setting, participants, message contents, norms for interpretation.
