Abstract
Keyword: Symbol, connotation meaning, Roland Barthes, Island This study aims to recognize the symbols using Roland Barthes semiotics, and analyze the connotative meaning of the symbols contained in the drama Island. this study explains about: (1) Symbols that appear in the drama Island. (2) The connotative meaning of each symbol contained in the Island drama series. The data source of this study is a Korean drama directed by Bae Jong, and Yang Kyung II as an illustrator, Yoon In Wan as a webtoon writer entitled Island. Data analysis is: (1) Analyzing the symbols contained in the drama Island. (2) Describing the connotation meaning of the symbols that have been domuntated from the Island drama. (3) Making conclusions and categorizing them. The results revealed that there are several categories in these symbols, such as lust demon hunters, exorcism, bad omens, fashion, characteristics through color, the beauty of Jeju island, and so on. Hopefully, this thesis can provide knowledge as an analysis of literary works, especially for students of the English Literature Program.
