Abstract

Keyword: Comparative Study, Carol Pearson, Archetype, A Study in Pink, and A Study in Scarlet. This research aims to analyze the similarities and the differences of hero archetype found in A Study in Pink and A Study in Scarlet using Carol Pearson archetype. This study explains: (1) similarities of hero archetype portrayed in the novel A Study in Scarlet and movie script A Study in Pink (2) differences of hero archetype portrayed in the novel A Study in Scarlet and movie script A Study in Pink. The researcher uses a descriptive qualitative approach as a research method. The data source is A Study in Pink and A Study in Scarlet. Data collection by: (1) read comprehensively the novel (2) Collect and retrieve data from the novel relating to the research problem (3) Fragmenting dialogue in the novel according to the research problem (4) Download the movie, then save it as a soft copy (5) Watch the movie take a screenshot based on the research problems (6)Then understand the contents of the movie (7) Compare the similarities and differences between the hero archetype of the main character "Sherlock Holmes" in the novel and movie. Meanwhile, the data analysis procedures are: (1) analyzes the similarities of hero archetype portrayed in the novel A Study in Scarlet and movie script A Study in Pink based on Carol Pearson (2) analyzes the differences of hero archetype portrayed in the novel A Study in Scarlet and movie script A Study in Pink based on Carol Pearson (3) Describing similarities of hero archetype portrayed in the novel A Study in Scarlet and movie script A Study in Pink (4) Describing differences of hero archetype portrayed in the novel A Study in Scarlet and movie script A Study in Pink (5) Draw the conclusion. This study shows that not all movie script and novel script in the A Study in Pink and A Study in Scarlet have complete hero archetype based on the classification of hero archetype to objects from Pearson’s theory. There are four archetype heroes in the similarities. They are the magician, the caregiver, the hero, and the fighter. Based on how they are different, there are three heroes archetype: the innocent, the creator, and the fighter. The warrior archetype is an exception because the researcher discovered it in two data sets, namely novels and movie.
