Abstract

This research studies the class struggle in a capitalist society in The Heirs series. The purpose of this work is to depict social conditions in capitalist society and interactions between the lower and upper classes in The Heirs series. The author use descriptive-qualitative methods and sociological approache to analyze the social conditions of capitalist society and the interactions between the lower and upper classes in the series. The tool used by the author of this study is note-taking. Using this device, author read series, identify dates, then write sentences, and finally classify dates based on theory. In this study, the author states that The Heirs series (1) shows the social conditions of capitalist society, such as class differences and human exploitation. Class distinction divide the class into the following two classes.upper class and lower class. The upper class consists of society, organizations and officials. The lower class in human exploitation shows that the lower class is exploited by the upper class as who determine activity, citizenship, love and punishment. (2) It also depicts the exploitation of capitalism, which provokes struggles among the lower classes through rebellion. (3) The class struggle presented in this series has the same goals as Marx's theory of liberation from oppression and exploitation. The purpose of this research is to inform the readers about the class struggle due to capitalist oppression. I hope that this work, as an analysis of literary works, can contribute to the education of students, especially those in the English Department and Faculty of Letters.
