Abstract

Keyword: Semiotics, Memes dealing with skripsi This study is conducted to analyze semiotics on meme dealing with skripsi.

This study is aimed at explaining: (1) the signifier and signified in meme dealing with skripsi, (2) the denotative meaning and connotative meaning of each meme dealing with skripsi. The writer uses a qualitative approach and content analysis as the research method. The sources of data are 15 selected memes taken from internet, such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, digital news media and web. The data are collected by (1) Searching the meme dealing with skripsi on internet such us Instagram, Facebook, Twitter digital news media and web which contain semiotics, (2) Screenshotting the meme dealing with skripsi, (3) Choosing the meme dealing with skripsi to be analyzed, while the procedure of data analysis are: (1) Selecting the meme dealing with skripsi that have been collected, (2) Classifying signifier and signified of meme dealing wit h skripsi using Ferdinand de Saussure’s theory of semiotics, (3) Displaying the data into a table based on signifier and signified of semiotics, (4) Describing denotative and connotative meaning of each meme dealing wit h skripsi using Roland Barthes’ theory of semiot ics, (5) Drawing the conclusion. In this research, the writer concluded that meme dealing with skripsi are represented in signifier and signified based on semiotics theory by Saussure. The Signifier and Signified of meme dealing with skripsi could be verbal text and the visual. In this research, all meme dealing with skripsi have the denotative and connotative meaning. Most of them are about the difficulties of students in writing skripsi.
