Abstract

In Indonesia, especially in West Java, the community has held folklore in high regard. There are many folklores born and been inherited from generations to generations. In West Java there are CiungWanara, Dewi Sri, Kabayan, Leungli, LutungKasarung, MundinglayaDikusumah, NyaiRoroKidul, Sangkuriang, And Sri Baduga Maharaja. One of the most favorit folklore is Sangkuriang. This story has spread and told to children in all provinces of Indonesia. Every children in elementary school are taught of the history of TangkubanPerahu, which is originated from Sangkuriang story. This story is also the first story in Indonesia that tells about Oedipus Complex. This study is conducted to describe structure of the analysis of Propp’s dramatis personae in Sangkuriang.To describe the analysis of Propp’s function in Sangkuriang. The study uses the theory of Vladimir Propp which that analyzes the story into 31 functions of the dramatis personae. This theory is applied to analyze sangkuriang story.It begins with writing down every function contained in the story, and then adding a summary of the contents and giving a conventional symbol that matches the analysis structure of the functions and the functions of the dramatis personae in the story. Once known the functions of the actors in the story, will be disclosed events that highlighted or so-called story motifs through the approach of Vladimir Propp. The analysis finds that the story of Sangkuriang has a similar structure as Russian folktale as Vladimir Propp. Only ten functions appear in the story, but Propp never mention that the story should contain all the function because in each story has its own structure though often there are story equations.While based on the analysis on the dramatis personae, the story of Sangkuriang only has six categories.
