Abstract

Language is the primary medium of human social interaction, and interaction is the means trough which the social relations are constructed and maintained. Therefore, people have to master more than one language for communication each other. In speaking, people often insert other language to the language spoken. It is called code mixing. Wardhaugh (1998:103) explains that code mixing is the mixing of two languages used together in the course of a single utterance. It means that a speaker inserts other languages to the language
while he is speaking in one language. This study aims that investigating the use of code mixing in the movie Street Society because this movie is unique.
There are two research problems in this research, they are: (1) What are the forms of code mixing that people use in daily conversation especially characters in the“Street Society”movie? (2) What is the reasons of the characters used code mixing in“Street Society”movie? What is the reasons of the characters used code mixing in“Street Society”movie?. The purpose of this study are : (1) To describe the forms of code mixing in characters of “Street Society”movie. (2) To describe the reason of characters use code mixing in “Street Society”movie. The research design of this study is descriptive qualitative
approach. It is because the data are in the form of word. Only one kind of the source of the
data, that is the data from the conversation used by the actors (Rio, Yopi, Niko and Karina) on the Street Society Movie directed by Awi Suryadi. The result of this study shows that in this research find a kind of code mixing. They are: Asserting Power, Pride and Status, Expressing Self Emotion, Being More Informative (message oriented), Being More Competent, Conveying the Speaker’s Attitude to the Listener
