Abstract

This study is conducted to analyze the affixation which is found in The Jakarta Post’s Headline. This study also to find out the most dominant affix that found in The Jakarta Post’s Headline and to show the number of affixation in The Jakarta Post’s Headline. Along with the times make the appearance of new words. The changes of the words is because of the development of science and human needs are constantly changing. The development of language can not be separated from the media, especially the print media such as newspaper. The research approach which the writer use in this thesis is qualitative descriptive since it deals with words to analyze it and the writer also wants to find out the number of affixation in The Jakarta Post’s Headline. The writer choose The Jakarta Post because it was one of the english newspaper in Indonesia who is very popular in society so it has a language influence for the readers. After the writer explains the theoritical framework, she tabulates the data of affixation word, then she analyses the data through the related theories that is used by the writer and make it understandable. From the data that have been analyzed, it was found 71 affixation in The Jakarta Post’s Headline and 81 affixation processes. They are prefix and suffix. Infix does not find in it. Prefix includes –en and found just once. They are 80 suffixes include -s (46), -ty (2), -ion (4), -ic (2), -ed (3), -ing (3), -ation (1), -er (6), -es (2), -ure (1), -en (1), -ship (1), -ry (1), -ful (1), -ative (1), -ment (1), -th (1), -ity (1), -ize (1), -tion (1). Suffix –s is the most affix that found in The Jakarta Post’s Headline.
The writer suggests for those who are interested in analyzing or understanding the affixation, should more update about new vocabularies which probably can be found in so many literatures like magazines, novels, books, and etc. Secondly, it is also suggested that the other researchers to improve on the limitations of this study can describe more deeply.
Finally the writer hopes that this study will be useful for the future improvement of studying linguistic, especially about affixation, and also the writer there will be a better research which use this thesis as a reference for student in Wijaya Putra University
