Abstract

This study is conducted to analyze the use of prokem language in online social media especially twitter. This study also propose a problem what are the meaning, variant of prokem, and the function of the prokem. In the last five years the using of social media has increased significantly, most of the user of twitter that known as tweeties are teenagers, it certainly influences the using of prokem language in social media that is usually used by teenagers. This analysis is specially focused on prokem language in their tweets. Hopefully, this study will be useful for students of English Department, especially to help them understand prokem used in online social media twitter. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method, the writer choose seven tweeties and also five tweets from each them as the targets of the study. The choosing of the seven tweeties as targets is based on the most active users on that social media and also the most often using some prokem language on their status. To support the analysis, the writer uses prokem dictionary and some other related theories. After the writer explained the theoritical framework, he tabulates the data of prokem word or phrases, then he analyses the data through the related theories that is used by the writer and make it undestandable as standard english language. From the data that have been analyzed, it was found the three variant of prokem, they are tambahan awalan ko, kombinasi e+ong, and the last one is sisipan pa/pi/pu/pe/po in the twitter statuses. It was also found the functions of the slang from each statuses, they are personal function, referential function, directive function, imaginatif function The writer suggests to other researchers and the students of English Department who are interested in similar researches, to discuss about prokem more deeply. Secondly, it is also suggested that the other researchers can discuss the message in statuses which maybe have hidden meaning or not which directly stated in the statuses. The last, it is also suggested to analyze the prokem not only in the twitter, but also in the other online social media such as facebook, instagram, blogger, path, and so on.
