Abstract

Language has an important function in society’s life. There is non standard language which has been known as slang language. This analysis is specially focused on slang language in novel “Bersandarlah di Bahuku” by Eni Martini. And the aims in this study is explaining: (1) the type of the slang used in novel “Bersandarlah di Bahuku” by Eni Martini and (2) the definition of the slang used in novel “Bersandarlah di Bahuku” by Eni Martini. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method. To support the analysis, the writer uses slang dictionaries and some other related theories. After the writer explains the theoretical framework, she tabulates the data of slang word or phrases, then she analyses the data through the related theories that is used by the writer and make it understandable as standard English language. From the data that have been analyzed, was found many type of slang used in the novel “Bersandarlah di Bahuku” by Eni Martini. That are: many slang is transliterations of English ones. For example: Teng kyu (from English-thank you), servis (from English-service), sori (from English-sorry). And some of the slang language vocabulary was transformed from formal Indonesian through several ways. That are: Adding -in at the end (buatin, bilangin, nungguin, pesanin, hubungin, etc.), eliminating one or few letters of the word (udah, tau, abis, etc.), contracting diphthong into monosyllabic letter (pake, kalo, etc.). Some words borrowing from foreign language, for example: dinner ( English language), happy (English language), gue (Hokkien language), lo (Hokkien language). And also, some of the slang are abbreviations. For example: Ember (emang benar), OTW (On The Way), MTA ( Mau Tahu Aja), etc.
