Abstract

This study is conducted to analyze the use of jargon in Bank Mandiri especially on teller. This study also propose a problem what are the meaning and type of jargon. Teller is a person who works in Bank which have job desk to handle customer money transaction. They used special term for each transaction that called jargon bank. This analysis is focused on jargon in bank especially on teller. Hopefully, this study will be useful for students of English Department, especially to help them understand jargon used in teller. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method, the writer record nineteen of random conversation in teller based on teller activity. Then, transcribe the recording on the data that related with word formation process. To support the analysis, the writer uses jargon dictionary and some other related theories. After the writer explaines the word formation process of jargon, he tabulates the data of jargon meaning, then she analyses the data through the related theories that is used by the writer. From the data that have been analyzed, the writer discovered 45 jargons. The writer found out almost 89 percents of jargon that consist of borrowing word from English language. Almost 89 percent of jargon has more than one process word formation. The writer also found, there are 45 jargons that teller use with staffs and 13 jargons that use both between staffs and customer. There are 3 jargons that belong to blending process, 20 jargons belong to acronym, 10 jargons belong compounding, and 37 jargons from 45 jargons are borrowing word process.The writer suggests to other researchers and the students of English Department who are interested in similar researches, to discuss about jargon more deeply.
