Abstract

In a daily life, listen to the music is an interesting activity that people do. Sometimes, we do not realize, we enjoy every melody, note, morover the lyric. Lyric become a magnet to lure the listener, it can be the word and the meaning etc. Sometimes, people interest to know the meaning. Even, figurative language is also to be an seasoning for the lyric particularly. Figurative language decorate the lyric, so it can be an beautifull words to be sung. This study aim at finding the kinds of figurative language, type of reason figurative language, and also understand the meaning of figurative language. This research uses a qualitative approaches to produce a descriptive data, in the form of written words and not numbers. Embedded study is used as a strategy to collecting the data. The source of data are 10 song lyrics of Demi Lovato. The data are collected by (1) find song lyric by demi Lovato in the internet. While to analysis the data the writer try to (1) Identify the data uses figurative language. (2) Understand the meaning of Demi’s song lyric. (3) Classify the song lyric based on the type reason of figurative language. The result of the analysis shows that the kind of figurative language that the most appear in Demi Lovato song lyric is simile. There are twelve kinds of figurative language that is used by the writer, these are simile, metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche, personification, irony, hyperbole, symbol, paradox, allegory, allusion, and understatement, and also there are four types of reason in figurative language, type 1 that explain figurative language is afford people to develop their imagination, type 2 that explain figurative language is a way of bringing additional imagery into verse, of making the abstract concrete, of making poetry more sensuous, type 3 that explain figurative language is a way of adding emotional intensity to otherwise merely informative statements and conveying attitudes along with information. Finally, based on the finding and analysis, the writer suggest for the next research will be able to develop the kinds of figurative language, and also the types. Find more theory that will be developed based on the era.
