Abstract

This Thesis is a research about presupposition in the campaign speeches of political leaders, in which the researcher tried to analyze and classify the data based on the types of presupposition and presupposition meanings of those speeches collection by the political leaders in the world. In this study the researcher describes a presupposition as whole of the way to think and speak. Presupposition itself is the speaker assumes to be the case prior to making an utterance. Based on the types, Presupposition consists of Existential presupposition, Factive presupposition, Non Factive presupposition, Lexical presupposition and Counterfactual presupposition. The researcher chose the speech as a study to make sure and analyze the terms which have the connection with pragmatics, presupposition. Source of data that has been taken by researcher in the form of quotations or manuscript of English language speech. Were then analyzed according to the type and significance of these presupposition. In the work of interpreting pragmatic presupposition, the researcher faces some difficulties. Such as, confusing determine the pragmatic presupposition and analysis when the utterance(s) is consist of the term of Politic and Economic sphere. So researcher has to really understand about the material which related in the study. The researcher hopes the result of study will broaden the reader about the study of linguistics as well as provide a broad understanding on how to capture the assumption of each utterance(s)
