Abstract

A splashy news lately about the murder of Wayan Mirna Salihin, Jessica Kumala Wongso is potential suspect in the death of Wayan Mirna Salihin. Who died after drinking cyanide – laced coffee in a Jakarta restaurant. The Police questioned Jessica as part of invest igtion into Mirna‟s death. Jessica was the one who ordered the drinks for Mirna and another friend, Hani, in a restaurant in the upscale Grand Indonesia Mall in central Jakarta on January 6, 2016. The case went very long and complicated. The case also has monopolized the spotlight, attracting extensive media coverage from day one. This study is conducted to identify the type of Illocutionary Acts of selected Jessica Kumala Wongso utterances which are stated on Exclusive Interview Liputan 6 News Program on SCTV and to analyze what are the general function of Illocutionary act Jessica Kumala Wongso utterances which are stated on Exclusive Interview on Liputan 6 SCTV. The study uses the theory of Speech Acts from George Yule to do the analysis. The study uses descriptive qualitative method. The data is Script Interview and the source of data is Jessica Kumala Wongso utterances. The study collects the data from transcription of Exclusive Interview on Liputan 6 SCTV‟s videos on www.youtube.com. The data are categorized into the types of Illocutionary Acts. The analysis of data uses rules as the pattern of analyzing Illocutionary Acts based on George Yule‟s theory of Speech Act. After that, the data is interpreted using contextual explanation. The analysis finds that The four types of illocutionary acts based on Yule‟s theory are found in Jessica Kumala Wonsgo utterances. They are Declarative, Representative, Expressive, and Commisive. The general function of Illocutionary Acts from each data is analyzed using the rule and then are more interpreted using contextual explanation by concerning in the context when the utterances are spoken. The study suggest that other researchers will do research about Speech Act in other figure involved sensational case who have unique personality like Jessica Kumala Wongso with her complicated case.
