Abstract

This study is conducted to analyze associative meaning on the Eighth Muse’s Simulation Theory Album. This study aimed at explaining: (1) types of associative meaning as represented on The Eighth Muse’s Album Simulation Theory. (2) meaning of the lyrics on The Eight Muse’s Album Simulation Theory. The researcher uses a qualitative approach. Therefore, this research uses content analysis as the research method. The source of data is Simulation Theory Album and the data are 11 chosen song lyrics taken from YouTube video sharing platform. The data are collected by: (1) Downloading eleven the lyrics video of each selected songs from YouTube video sharing platform. (2) Watching and listening to each selected song by lyrics video to make sure that the lyrics in video correct. The data analysis use leech theory (1981) and process the analysis are reading the data, coding the data, categorizing the data, describing the data, and making conclusion. In this research, the researcher found types of associative meanings in the songs lyric; they were connotative meaning, stylistic meaning, affective meaning, reflective meaning and collocative meaning. And also find the meaning behind the songs in the album. The artist expresses emotion and anxiety at the situation in this age with development of technology that is so fast that makes people forget the circumstances around them. The researcher concluded that everything in the Simulation Theory Album has described the current state of the world.
